Was recently on a “spiritual holiday” to Patmos with a great bunch of People. Led by Tim Stevens of CaFé. It got me thinking about a lot of things. It is, after all, the place of revelation (I am hoping to return there with a group in May 2020)
One of the things I have wanted to do throughout this new year was to turn the tables on a number of habits. One of the worst and one of the ones I wanted to get past foremost: studying, reading, organising and not having anything to share. Working toward perfect systems and filing. Searching and trying all the best apps – certainly gaining a mass of info and Knowledge- but for what – for me to be busy?
Would be too much to go into all the things that have been on the move in me this year – but one of them was certainly to share more readily and frequently the myriad of info and learning that gathers in my inbox – things that should be shared.
Last week I began the course by Tiago Forte – Building a Second Brain. Has been a real eye opener. A natural progression for the GTD enthusiast – where dose all this “stuff” go that we encounter everyday in our digital world – how can we leverage the unique perspective that each of us has due to the different combinations of events and knowledge that is gathered – each person putting things together uniquely. How can I get to that info when I need it…
One of the first lessons I learned was that I mainly just hoarded material rather than break it down into something useable. How can you perfectly file everything and have it accessible – that perfect filing system. It is not only about capturing every last piece of material – it is about processing and connecting info and sharing it so that it becomes of use to myself and to others.
Certainly great to be learning – but be careful – its another system and another time you are immersing yourself in that world of endless infotainment.
Hence this post – don’t think about starting – start…
Overcoming perfectionism and being prepared to put what is “just good enough” on the table. Self accountability… Being a part of a community that through sharing grows in knowledge…
